Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

I did this a little over 30 years ago and got caught in a lightning storm in the big meadow at the base of the peak. Very unnerving but a memorable hike for sure.
Yikes that spot had me worried going up. I imagine unnerving is putting it lightly. Good stuff!

Thinking of doing this as part of a several day backpacking trip to include several 14ers! Would this be good overnight tent pitch area at 13:13? Am trying to plot out routes to include camping early on up the 14ers before leaving tree line of course. Also thinking about doing Yale by coming from Harvard and then going west at the intersetion with Kroenke Lake Trail, heading to Browns Trail and then splitting off to the north east at Mt Yale Trail intersection...but with an overnight in between Kroekne Lake Traind and Mt Yale! Any intel??!!

@@TheDreamologist so around 2:17 on your left looks quite flat ...possibly around 11,600 elev. Also around 2:54 time stamp. Think I've spotted this zone on a few other videos and tried to snoop it out on google earth and onX/Gaia etc. Also considering an alternate route from Kroenke Lake and approaching Yale from NW Ridge...as mentioned by Gerry Roach...are you familiar with THAT route?! Thanks!

I’ve seen more moose and deer around there but I’m sure at some point they come through

We are planning this hike this summer - assuming you camped in the basin what estimated mileage should we expect from camp to Eolus summit?
Just going off memory. I believe from our campsite which was a 5- 10 walk from the sign it took about an hour to get to the twin lakes and then another hour to the top from there. 4-5 hour round trip with hanging out and care.

@sophiekimble6210 there’s a switch back that’s almost right below the cat walk when you’re just about up there that I didn’t want to hang out under and then the climb after the cat walk kept wanting to take me right which was a little more than I wanted to partake in solo stay left for a more chill time even still that’s where you’re making more climbing type moves. Totally doable, and a no fall zone check all your hand holds twice mind your feet you should be just fine.
Those spots felt the riskiest other than that very fun
